What is your change leadership style?

There’s nothing like a crisis to show us what’s possible. COVID raised the bar exponentially in our capacity to navigate and adapt to change.  According to a new McKinsey Global Survey, companies responded to a range of COVID-19 related changes 20 to 25 times faster than expected¹.

Not all change is successful. In fact the failure rate for change initiatives is high (up to 70% according to some leadership literature) and ineffective leadership is a commonly cited culprit. Leading change is so much more than talking tasks and outcomes; it’s a hard gig.  Some experts believe that the amount of change an average employee will be able to absorb in 2021 (without becoming fatigued) will be half what it was last year.²

Leading change is a critical leadership competency.

Transformational leaders are the real champions of change; they build connection, engagement and resilience. Ultimately, they create a journey worth travelling and an environment worth being part of.

You want to champion people through change where they genuinely want to follow your lead. You might be working hard doing all the right things and still not getting the traction you need.

Building self-understanding and translating it into an organisational context is easier said than done and getting started is often the hardest part. Many leaders simply aren’t as self-aware or emotionally intelligent as they think they are.

There are lots of tools that assess organisational readiness for change. What about individual leadership readiness?

I’ve worked with many leaders where the gap between their intention and impact is greater than they think it is. Where does your change leadership capability sit between transactional leadership and transformational leadership?  Would you like to find out?

Say hello to the Leading Change Profile

I’ve developed this free tool to help you assess your change leadership capability. I’m offering it to my leadership community as my first port of call. I reckon the timing is pretty good, especially if you’re asking yourself:

  • How do I want to serve my team this year?
  • What does my leadership success look like this year?

Wherever you’re at in your leadership journey, being able to self-assess your areas of leadership strength and stretch can help you figure out what’s working, what’s not working and why.  Every leader has progress to make. Targeting your leadership development on the areas that will accelerate your leadership effectiveness is a good strategy, right?

The profile assesses dimensions of your thinking and behavioural preferences based on my 5 Linchpins for Leading Change Model (the base model for my book Lead REAL Change).

Is your leadership change maker ready?

Click on the link below to download the profile. It’ll only take about 5-10 minutes or so to complete. You’ll receive a list of targeted leadership development tips, as well as your Leading Change Profile Report which is a guided coaching conversation to decode your leadership. It will help you challenge, champion and shape your thinking on your leadership development for 2021. How does that sound?

Who is the change leader you want to become this year? I’d love to know.

Here’s to your change leadership success this year. I’m cheering you on.

Enjoy the rest of your week, Toni
